We only collect the information that we need to give you the advice and assistance that you are asking us to provide. This will usually be information that you give us, but managing transactions or resolving disputes often involves getting information from other people as well.
At the moment, we don’t collect information through our website that could identify you. The most we might be able to see is analytical information (such as the town or city that a site visitor is in, or numbers and types of page visits). If that changes, we’ll update our policy and repost it here.
We’ll keep you in the picture about what is going on. You are always welcome to ask us for an update, or ask to see the information that we have about you on a file. Just ask the lawyer who’s been dealing with your file, give us a ring, or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
We’ll always do our best to check that your information is right but if we have got the wrong end of the stick, please tell us! We can’t give you good advice if the information we have isn’t correct.
We’ll use and disclose your information if that’s necessary to provide the services that you’ve asked us for (for instance to buy or sell your house, or to manage your case in court).
Otherwise, we only disclose your information if you allow us to do so, or if we’re required to do so by law. Confidentiality is important to you and to us.
We keep wills, trust documents, powers of attorney and other deeds safe for as long as you need them.
We only keep our other client files (correspondence, background documents and so on) for 10 years before we securely destroy them. Realistically, after that time, they generally won’t be of any use to us or to you. If you think you’ll need copies of any of the information on the file, make sure you ask us ahead of time.
While we hold your information, whether it’s in a paper file or a digital file, we’re committed to making sure it’s as safe and secure as possible.
